About the Gallardo
The Gallardo is the car that made Lamborghini a bigger company. Built from 2003 to 2013, it was the brand's second model under Audi ownership and its first entry-level car in about fifteen years, sitting below the V12 Murciélago and later the Aventador. It grew out of the Italdesign Calà concept of 1995, and it was named after a famous breed of fighting bull. The original car had a 5.0-liter V10 with 500 PS, with a choice of a gated six-speed manual or the paddle-shifted e-gear automated manual. The LP 560-4 update, shown at Geneva in 2008, brought a new 5.2-liter V10 with direct injection and 560 PS, and the lighter Superleggera and rear-drive Valentino Balboni editions followed. Top Gear named the LP 550-2 Balboni its Car of the Year in 2009. By the time production ended on Nov 25, 2013, Lamborghini had built 14,022 Gallardos, its best-selling model at the time, and the Huracán took over.
